Dev Updates
New Boss Skills and New Character Skills!
1. Boss Skills — Medusa
Swirling Serpents
To create a more exciting boss stage, swirling serpents have been added as a new skill for one of the bosses — Medusa. Where Medusa summons three snakes that revolve around her. Created three snakes with different lengths and bending patterns that swirl circularly around.
Three separate snake objects have been designed, each with unique length values, and applied with trigonometry to calculate the position of each snake as they revolve around Medusa. To make the snakes look more dynamic and add some visual interest, we have also incorporated bending motions as they move.
To avoid players come into contact with any of the snakes, we implemented collision detection algorithms. These algorithms will compare the players’ position with the position of each snake and trigger an action, such as when the two positions intersect, it reduces player’s health or causes them to lose the game.
We then incorporated animations to bring the swirling serpents to life and enhance player engagement. To further elevate the visual experience, we also added particle effects to the snakes’ movement around Medusa.


Gaseous Bubble
The skill involves the boss releasing bubbles as an attack that travels outward and grows in both speed and size as it oscillates. The bubble pops when it comes into contact with the player, slowing them down.
To create this skill, we designed green bubble graphics and implemented a system that allows the bubbles to travel outwards from the boss and grow in both speed and size. Assisted with the combination of mathematical equations and animations to control the movements.
Bubble pop animation triggered when the bubble comes into contact with the player along with a slowing effect. To implement both accordingly, we will need to use a programming technique such as changing the player’s velocity and applying a debuff effect to the player’s character.

2. Character Skills Update
Barrage
The devastating ‘Barrage’ attack
- Barrage spins around your character and shoots out projectiles, providing 360-degree coverage for maximum effectiveness.
- The first upgrade will add 3 projectiles to the barrage, with even more added as you further upgrade the skill.
- The projectiles have a spread attack pattern and cool down which fired every 3–4 seconds, ensuring intimidating damage output.


Boomerang
The powerful and versatile ‘Boomerang’ attack!
- Boomerang flies towards the direction you are facing, making it a precise and effective tool in combat.
- The boomerang will return to its starting point, providing the opportunity to reset its cool down by picking it up.


Explosive Bullets
The explosive and formidable ‘Explosive Bullets’ attack
- Every 3 times the player shoots, an explosive bullet is fired, adding an extra layer of destruction to your arsenal.
